Today, I heard the news that Steve McNair was found dead on Saturday in an apartment/condo. The news reporter mentioned that many people in the Nashville area were shocked by the news. This got me wondering about what was shocking about a celebrity being killed or dying. If the celebrity is killed or dies unexpectedly then I understand how it could be a surprise. I can't see it as shocking though because people are killed or die unexpectedly every day. Are people shocked at the death? The death is a part of the emotion that is being experienced. The shock comes from a feeling that the celebrity had everything but was unable to protect themselves. This could bother the normal folk because we have been told by the media that our celebrities have everything. If anyone has the ability to fix problems in their life it is our celebrities. Why do we still believe the crap the media is selling to us? We can see if over and over with celebrities that their situation in life is no better than ours when it comes to everyday problems. They have money but we see that money does fix problems. Money only buys them stuff and attracts people that only want a piece of the cash. So should we be shocked by a celebrity being killed or unexpectedly dieing? No we should not be shocked by this. We should be saddened by every death that happens that is not by natural causes but we should not be shocked.
